The Supreme Court has upheld Tennessee’s law banning gender-affirming medical treatments—such as puberty blockers and hormone therapy—for transgender minors.

Plaintiffs argued the law discriminated based on sex and transgender status. However, the Court’s conservative majority, led by Chief Justice John Roberts, ruled 6–3 that such bans do not violate the Constitution’s equal protection clause.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor dissented, saying the decision abandons vulnerable children and breaks from established civil rights precedent.

The ruling is expected to influence the 24 other US states that have passed similar bans.
