SCOTUS, in a 6–3 decision, lifted a ban on bump stocks and ruled that the government didn’t have the right to ban the accessory.

Bump stocks help semiautomatics fire rapidly like machine guns. The Trump administration banned them after they were used in a Las Vegas concert hall mass shooting in 2017 that killed 60 people.

Justice Clarence Thomas authored the ruling that read, “We hold that a semiautomatic rifle equipped with a bump stock is not a ‘machine gun’ because it cannot fire more than one shot ‘by a single function of the trigger.’” Justice Thomas wrote.
