A judge sentenced President-elect Donald Trump to an “unconditional discharge” for his conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records to conceal hush-money payments made to adult film star Stormy Daniels before the 2016 election, bringing an end to the first criminal trial of a former US president.
Trump will not face any jail time, probation or fine. However, it is the first time in US history that a president-elect will enter office with a felony conviction. His inauguration is set for January 20.
The former president continued to maintain his innocence, calling the case a “political witch hunt,” and vowed to appeal the decision.
