A federal judge has ordered the White House to restore access for CNN, MS NOW and Politico after finding that President Donald Trump’s ban was likely unconstitutional.
Judge Timothy J. Kelly issued a 14-day restraining order Thursday, directing the administration to return the outlets’ press credentials immediately.
He added that the news organizations were likely to prove that the White House violated their due process rights by removing their access without advance notice or a chance to respond.
President Trump had accused the three organizations of reporting “fiction and lies” and being overly negative.
The Trump administration claimed the ban was necessary to protect national security. Kelly rejected the justification.
The three news organizations sued, arguing that the ban violated First Amendment protections for a free press and denied them due process.
