Seven people, including two children, died after a tornado ripped through multiple counties in Iowa. The EF3 category tornado razed the city of Winterset, 40 miles from Des Moines, destroying over two dozen homes in the process. Officials at Des Moines International Airport halted flights and moved travelers into tornado shelters located below the airport premises. Governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, issued a disaster proclamation for the affected areas in response to the massive damage caused by the storm system. “Our hearts ache during this time, but I know Iowans will step up and come together to help in this time of need,” said Reynolds in a statement on Twitter.
