Sherly Sandberg leaves Meta after 14 years|World Economic Forum|CC BY-SA 2.0

Meta’s Chief Operating Officer Sheryl Sandberg decided to step down from her role after 14 years but will remain on the company’s board of directors.

Sandberg announced her departure in a Facebook post, which states that she has enjoyed her time in the tech firm and would like to now focus on her philanthropic work.

Sandberg’s leadership helped shape the company and made Meta, formally Facebook, one of the most powerful tech companies in the world.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, via a Facebook post, announced that the company is promoting Javier Olivan to Sandberg's position but noted that “this role will be different.”

Sandberg, in recent years, became one of the public faces of many of Facebook's biggest controversies, including the Cambridge Analytica privacy scandal and the recently-leaked Facebook Files.
