Health officials in the CDC are contemplating expanding the age eligibility for a second COVID-19 booster dose to people under 50 as the country witnessed a steady rise in cases.
The country has seen a threefold increase in the past month.
Currently, the FDA has authorized the usage of these second booster doses only for ages 50 and more. But as the current-day average of daily cases rose 26% from last week, there is a need to increase the immunization of other groups.
CDC Director Rochelle Walensky on Wednesday commented, “With regard to a fourth dose for those under the age of 50, that is going to require action from the FDA, and we’re in conversations there.”
