E-commerce giant Amazon announced on Wednesday that it would shut down its 68 physical stores in the U.S. and the UK. Reuters reported that the outlets include Amazon Books, Amazon 4-Star, and Amazon Pop Up locations and that their focus was to shift over to its grocery and fashion stores. Betsy Harden, a spokesperson for the company, stated that the firm plans to build long-term physical retail experiences that focus on helping affected employees find new opportunities within Amazon. According to the company’s latest filing in December 2021, Amazon was operating 672 physical stores in North America, including the popular grocery chain Whole Foods.
