Amazon can now have a hearing over its claim that the New York union vote was conducted by unfair means.
The union vote at the Staten Island facility took place last month where 55% of the employees chose to join the Amazon Union Labor.
The online retail giant claimed that the union vote was biased—the labor organizers intimidated workers during the vote, and the US National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) Brooklyn Office allegedly supported the Union drive.
Following the allegations about the Brooklyn office, Amazon secured the case transfer to NLRB’s Phoenix Office. The office's director, Cornele Overstreet, said Amazon's claims "could be grounds for overturning the election."
In the 28 years of Amazon, it was the first time the US staff elected to unionize.
The parties can present their testimonies from May 23, following which an NLRB hearing officer will review and provide the final decision. The process is estimated to take weeks.
