The Biden administration announced on Thursday that starting April 11, citizens will be able to choose an ‘X’ for gender without any medical documentation in their passport applications.
It is one of the latest measures taken to support transgender Americans against the pile of laws imposed by different states—the latest being the ban on transgender athletes from taking part in girls’ sports in school by the Governors of Oklahoma and Arizona.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) will introduce gender-neutral screening at checkpoints to ease transgender Americans’ travel experience.
The ‘X’ option in the gender section will be implemented soon in other government agencies—starting with the Social Security Administration this fall.
