A Federal Florida Judge ruled on Monday that the mask mandates in airplanes and public transport are no longer necessary.

Marking an end to the 14-month-long mask mandate, the judge said that the CDC did not impose proper rules for the public.

This decision comes after CDC’s announcement to extend the mask mandate for 15 days—until May 3.

US District Judge Kathryn Kimball Mizelle, an appointee of former President Donald Trump, said the CDC has exceeded its authority and was inadequate in explaining the necessity of the extended mask mandate.

The response
Following the rule to drop the mask mandate, many airline companies dropped the restriction, effective immediately.

Wearing a mask is now optional on planes and other public transport.

The CDC still recommends people continue to wear masks while using public transportation as the number of COVID-19 cases is still rising.

The White House announced that the ruling was “disappointing”.
