Following the tragic rise of gun violence in the country, Senator Chris Murphy said Sunday the talks in the US Senate on gun safety violence are on track—with Democrats and Republicans working toward a “meaningful change” on gun laws, mental health issues and school security.
Democrat Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut is leading the talks with his Republican counterpart Senator John Cornyn of Texas.
No compromise on Second Amendment Rights
With the Bipartisan talks progressing on political proposals, the Senate does not likely include any actions on assault weapon ban and background checks.
Senator Murphy mentioned that the Senate is not compromising on the Second Amendment Rights.
The Second Amendment of the US Constitution protects the right to keep and bear arms.
In CNN’s State of the Union interview, the Senator said that the talks also focus on implementing stricter ‘red flag’ laws, saying, “What we're talking about is trying to make sure that dangerous or potentially dangerous individuals don't have their hands on weapons.”
Warriors, Celtics also call for stricter gun laws at NBA 2022 Finals
Looking at the increasing counts of mass shootings and gun violence, NBA’s Golden State Warriors and Boston Celtics Sunday urged Congress to implement stricter gun laws ahead of Game Two of the NBA Finals in San Francisco.
Players and coaches of both the teams wore orange t-shirts that said “End Gun Violence” on the front, showing their support for implementing stricter gun control laws.
