California became the first U.S. state to switch to an ‘endemic’ approach to the coronavirus pandemic. California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Thursday that a plan will be put in place that emphasizes prevention and quick responses to outbreaks instead of mask mandates and shutdown of businesses. In the event of an outbreak, Newsom aims to stockpile up to 75 million masks, create an infrastructure to provide up to 200,000 vaccinations and 500,000 tests daily, while recruiting an additional 3,000 medical personnel, all in a matter of three weeks.
