The Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau disclosed on Twitter on Monday that he has tested positive for COVID-19. He has been under home isolation since last Thursday. Canada is experiencing a surge in Omicron variant cases as well as rowdy protests against mandates for Covid-19 vaccines and other public health measures.
Trudeau, who received his COVID-19 AstraZeneca vaccination and a booster shot in January, said in his recent tweet that he is feeling fine, but would continue to work remotely this week. He urged people to get vaccinated and receive their booster shots. Canada has one of the world's highest rates of vaccination against COVID-19, with around 4 out of 5 people in the country receiving both doses. Trudeau met several members of his Cabinet last Wednesday. His family members are in isolation for days following his announcement. It was revealed during an outdoor news conference that the prime minister’s two children have also tested positive.
Reportedly, Trudeau and his family have relocated to a secret location following the protests. Thousands of protesters united by truckers opposed vaccine mandates.
