Russian composer Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s famed 1812 Overture was removed by the Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra.

Following this decision, the 1812 Overture will not be performed at St David's Hall on March 18 as it is observed to be offensive and inappropriate in light of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

The removal of the 1812 Overture is the latest addition to musical withdrawals and cancellations.

Last week, Chief Conductor Valery Gergiev was fired by the Munich Philharmonic due to his expression of support for President Vladimir Putin.

The 1812 Overture will now be replaced by  DvoÅ™ák’s Symphony No. 8, with John Williams‘ The Cowboys Overture and Elgar‘s Enigma Variations.
