US confirms 9 monkeypox cases in 7 states|Centers for Disease Control and Prevention|CC0 1.0
CDC has identified nine monkeypox cases in seven states as of Wednesday, said director Rachelle Walensky.
Where?
Massachusetts, Florida, Utah, Washington, California, Virginia, and New York are the seven states which confirmed the cases.
What might be the reason?
Among the nine cases, some had recently visited countries with a monkeypox outbreak while others didn’t.
Walensky said, “Most of the cases are within gay and bisexual men and other men who have sex with men.” She called for an approach “guided by science, not by stigma.”
Virginia alone claims that the case in its state is an adult woman.
Notably, monkeypox is a viral infection with symptoms similar to smallpox but with less severity.
