Mask and proof-of-vaccine mandate will be lifted in Chicago and Cook County on February 28, officials and the Mayor of Chicago Lori Elaine Lightfoot announced Tuesday. The officials further added that masks will no longer be necessary to enter restaurants, grocery stores, etc. In a press conference, Lightfoot pointed out that Chicago is on the downward slope of the COVID-19 surge.
However, people are urged to wear masks in public places and healthcare settings, and employees of establishments like restaurants and gyms are still required to submit weekly COVID-19 test reports.
The state officials highlighted that COVID cases dropped 97% since late December.
