According to Chinese state media CCTV, Chinese President Xi Jinping urged for “maximum restraints'' to maintain peace in Ukraine on Tuesday, stating that China doesn’t want to see the flames of war in Europe.

In an effort to help Russia-Ukraine peace negotiations, Xi met with French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz at a virtual summit on Tuesday where China voiced its concerns about the stability of global finance, energy supplies, transportation, and supply chains.

Two weeks into the Russia-Ukraine crisis, China declined to condemn Moscow’s attack or call it an invasion, adding that the Western sanctions against Russia’s “legitimate security concerns” were “illegal.”
