Day 4 of Winter Olympics 2022 couldn’t have had a better start than this for China as the fan-beloved Eileen Gu bagged her first Gold in Women’s Freeski Big Air Contest. The 18-year old performed an epic double cork 1620 on her third attempt, scoring 94.50, which her French rival Tess Ledeux couldn’t match.

Gu is the first woman to win gold for China in a freestyle skiing event.

Initially planning for the Silver medal, Gu performed the double cork 1620 for the first time in the contest. 20-year old Tess missed her chance to reclaim her position in the final attempt and secured the Silver medal.

Gu and Ledeux were followed by Switzerland’s Mathilde Gremauld, who came in third and won the Bronze medal in Women’s Freeski Big Air Contest.
