Congress enacted legislation on Tuesday that will provide $50 billion in financial relief to strengthen the United States Postal Service and maintain a six-day-a-week mail service.

The legislation has been sent to President Joe Biden for final approval.

The much-awaited revamp has been in the works for years and comes in the wake of numerous complaints about mail delivery delays.

Many Americans grew reliant on the Postal Service during the COVID-19 crisis even amidst warnings that the agency would run out of funding by 2024 without legislative intervention.

The House adopted the measure last month by a vote of 342-92, with all Democrats and the majority of Republicans voting in favor of the legislation.

Since 2007, the USPS has reported net losses of more than $90 billion. Last month, it booked a quarterly net loss of $1.5 billion.
