The state administration of Rio de Janeiro verified 105 deaths as a result of floods and mudslides that washed away homes and automobiles in the city of Petropolis. However, even as families prepared to put their loved ones to rest, it was unknown how many remained stuck in the mud on Thursday. The public prosecutor's office in Rio de Janeiro announced in a statement Wednesday night that it had produced a list of 35 persons who were yet to be located.
