Denver city officials say they will appeal the federal verdict awarding $14 million to 11 activists in March this year.
The activists were part of a peaceful protest against racial injustice following the death of George Floyd in 2020. The protesters claimed excessive force was used against them.
In March, a jury found that 11 protesters had their free speech rights and their rights to be protected from unreasonable force violated during the protests.
In the same hearing, city lawyers argued that more than 80 officers were injured during the protests, and $1 million was incurred in damages.
