The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) will grant Temporary Protected Status to Ukrainian residents in the country, allowing them to remain in-country for the next 18 months as a form of humanitarian aid. A group of bipartisan senators had urged the Biden administration to extend the relief, stating that forcing Ukrainian nationals to return to Ukraine in the midst of a war would be “inconsistent with America’s values and our national security interests.” According to reports, over 75,000 Ukrainians that have been residents of the US since March 1, 2022, will qualify for the Temporary Protected Status.
