Diplomats are busy working to ensure the safe return of Russia-detained basketball star Brittney Griner. The Russian Customs Service detained the two-time Olympic Champion after claiming to identify vape cartridges containing hashish oil in the player’s luggage at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. According to the Customs Authorities, the WNBA star, detained in February, has a criminal case opened against her, with possible imprisonment of five to ten years, if found guilty. On Sunday, Secretary of State Antony Blinken said the Biden Administration had assigned an embassy team to work on Griner’s safe return. In a statement, Texas Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee demanded the Russian government’s immediate release of Griner. Lindsay Colas, Griner's agent, said they are in close contact with Griner and her legal representative in Russia regarding the matter.
