The Environmental Protection Agency issued an emergency waiver to increase the fuel supply in Texas, allowing 34 counties to sell highly volatile, winter-grade gasoline.
The state’s air-pollution regulator, The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, requested the waiver following a fuel outage at Delek US Holdings' oil refinery in Tyler, Texas.
The rise in fuel prices
Following a steady rise in fuel prices, the Biden administration is considering lifting smog rules throughout the Nation and has released emergency oil stocks to address the issue.
The cost of a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Tyler is $4.26—a drastic increase from the $2.77 a year ago.
According to the motorist group AAA, the national average of gasoline is $4.61 per gallon.
