Children between the ages of five and 11 will now be eligible for Pfizer-BioNtech’s COVID-19 booster shot, provided their second vaccination was five months or prior.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the booster shot by Pfizer on Tuesday, which is the first COVID-19 vaccine booster for children in that age group.

Until now, children aged 12 and older and adults were eligible for a booster.

The CDC reported weekly hospitalizations among children increased by 8.4% during the second week of May.
According to data, only 28.8% of children in the age group got vaccinated with the primary shots.
