As fuel prices reach a record high, some states will suspend their taxes on gas to ease consumers’ burden as they face rising prices.
The average cost of gas in the US hit $4.24 a gallon, which is 18% higher than last month and 48% higher than it was a year ago.
Here are the states that are suspending the tax:
-
Connecticut is suspending its 25 cents per gallon tax starting April 1 till June 30. In addition, the legislation will suspend fares on public buses statewide during the same period.
-
Maryland is suspending its tax (31.1 cents per gallon) till the middle of April.
-
Georgia is suspending its gas tax of 29 cents a gallon till May end.
The move could be followed by other states as well.
According to experts, the reduction in the gas tax could lead to an increase in demand. However, the states of Maryland and Georgia have not seen such an increase since the tax suspension.
