Florida’s House of Representatives approved two critical bills (HB 7 and 1557) on Thursday that deal with race and sexual orientation. The HB 1557 bill, unofficially titled the ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill, aims to prohibit teachers from discussing gender identity and sexual orientation in classrooms for young students. The HB 7 or the ‘Stay WOKE’ bill, on the other hand, is looking to ban classroom discussions and corporate training that cause students or workers to feel uneasy about their race. Both proposals, which have the support of Florida’s Republican Governor Ron DeSantis, have now moved one step closer towards becoming law.
