
The first-ever outright acquittal of a January 6 Capitol Hill rioter took place on Wednesday in Washington, DC.
Mathew Martin, a New Mexico engineer was acquitted of all four misdemeanor charges by federal judge Trevor McFadden.
McFadden called Martin’s conduct “about as minimal and not serious as I can imagine.”
Around 800 people have been charged so far in connection with the Capitol Hill riots and almost 200 have pleaded guilty.
Sentences have ranged from probation to more than five years in prison.
Yesterday’s not-guilty verdict for Martin marks the third completed January 6 trial.
The first two cases, of Texas militia member Guy Reffitt and New Mexico county commissioner and Cowboys for Trump founder, Couy Griffin are awaiting sentence.
