Ford and Toyota confirmed on Wednesday that they will be pausing the production of some products due to the ongoing anti-COVID mandate protests by truckers. The protest has blocked the U.S-Canada border crossings.

Horn-blaring protests that had caused gridlock since late January have led to several warnings from Washington and Ottawa of its economic impact. The protest is affecting production and hindering trade and traffic between the two countries. Toyota, already suffering from a global chip shortage, has halted its car production at its Ontario facility for the rest of the week. Ford’s Oakville factory near Toronto is operating under reduced shifts and has paused engine output in Windsor.

Canada's Emergency Preparedness Minister, Bill Blair told reporters that the Ottawa protests also started affecting jobs and must stop further damages.
