As a reaction to the civilian killings in Bucha, allegedly by Russian forces, the German government declared 40 Russian diplomats “undesirable,” at the Russian embassy in Berlin.

France too announced it would expel 35 Russian diplomats, stating their activities were “against our security interests.”

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said the images of the victims in Bucha reveal “the unbelievable brutality of the Russian leadership,” and that Germany will initiate measures to increase support for the Ukrainian armed forces.

The German government also announced that Germany's Bundesnetzagentur energy regulator would take temporary control and become the trustee of the German subsidiary of Russian energy giant Gazprom till September 30.
