Amid a series of random attacks in the New York City’s transit system, a gunman shot and killed Daniel Enriquez, a 48-year-old man, during a ride on a New York City subway car on Sunday.

The gunman escaped after the shot when the train halted at the Canal Street Station in Manhattan, said Kenneth Corey, chief of the New York City Police Department.

The Bellevue Hospital proclaimed the victim died shortly after the 11:40 a.m. shooting.

Why is it significant?

In recent days, the transit system in the city faced several random attacks, including the murder of a Manhattan woman and another smoke bomb incident that wounded more than 20 people on April 12.
