As the much-publicized defamation trial between ex-couple and actors Johnny Depp and Amber Heard enters its fourth week, here is what has happened so far.
Heard fires her PR firm
Amber Heard and her team of lawyers will take the stand this week. Ahead of this, on Thursday, she fired the crisis PR firm Precision Strategies representing her. She is not happy with the press attention received so far, hence decided to discontinue.
Depp’s team performance
Johnny Depp and his team concluded their part last Friday. Over the past few weeks, Depp took the stand for four days to give testimonies and face cross-examination from Heard’s lawyers.
During these weeks, Depp’s lawyers presented images of the battered actor after altercations with Heard. An audio file of Heard saying, “I was hitting you. I was not punching you,” was also played in the courtroom.
The claims
Depp is suing Heard over an opinion piece she wrote in 2018 claiming to be a "public figure representing domestic abuse."
Though Depp was not named as the abuser in her piece, he claims it ruined his film career, damaged his reputation and cost him millions of dollars, $50 million, to be exact. Heard is counter-suing him for $100 million.
It is notable that Heard has already won the divorce case against Depp in 2016 and received a $7 million settlement. Their current trial began on April 11th and can continue until the end of this month.
