US District Judge David Carter ruled on Monday that Former President Donald Trump likely committed a felony while trying to bring down Congress during the election on January 6, 2021.
This ruling was followed by Judge Carter’s order to the January 6 Committee to release the 101 emails obtained from California lawyer John Eastman—who desperately tried to shield those using the attorney-client privilege.
“The Court finds it more likely than not that President Trump corruptly attempted to obstruct the Joint Session of Congress on January 6, 2021,” Carter said in a written decision.
This ruling is seen as a breakthrough following the January 6 Select Committee’s claims that Trump committed multiple felonies. The committee may formally request the US Justice Department to consider charging Trump.
Trump’s response
There is no official response from the former President’s representative yet. If found guilty, Donald Trump would be the first American President to have committed a felony.
