The billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $436 million to the nonprofit Habitat for Humanity International and 84 of its affiliates on Tuesday.
This is the largest donation from Scott since she promised to donate the majority of her wealth in 2019.
Scott’s donation amount was revealed in a statement from the Greater San Francisco chapter of the home-building nonprofit. The gift is to expand reasonable housing and Black homeownership.
Jonathan Reckford, Habitat for Humanity International’s CEO, said to The Associated Press that they are excited to receive the gift at the right time. The organization will get $25 million from Scott and her husband, Dan Jewett, and the rest will be shared among Habitat’s local affiliates.
Scott’s donated portion is approximately 8% of the $325 million in donations that Habitat for Humanity International welcomed in the 2020 fiscal year.
