This year’s Memorial holiday weekend was marred by thousands of US flight cancellations—more than 2,500 flights to be exact.

Post the travel shutdown due to COVID-19, US airlines are still scrambling to overcome the crew shortages. Add bad weather and air traffic control to the mix and you’ve got a four-day-long Memorial holiday weekend disaster.

Memorial Day holiday marks the traditional start of the busy summer travel season.

Going by the numbers
On Monday, close to 400 US flights were canceled and 2400 delayed, adding more to the count of 1,642 Sunday flight cancellations.

Globally, there were 1500 flights canceled on Monday, as per Flight Aware, a flight-tracking website.

Delta Air Lines canceled 700 flights over the last four days, which include 134 flight cancellations on Monday, according to Flight Aware.
