House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy—along with four other GOP lawmakers in the US House of Representatives—were issued subpoenas on Thursday from the House select committee investigating the January 6 Capitol riot.
It is the first time the bipartisan investigation issued subpoenas to sitting members of Congress.
McCarthy and the lawmakers—Jim Jordan, Mo Brooks, Scott Perry, and Andy Biggs—rejected voluntary cooperation with the investigation.
As a consequence, subpoenas were issued to secure the lawmakers’ testimony. The committee believes that they have information about the causes of the Capitol attack that occurred on January 6.
