After failing to reach an agreement between owners and players before the deadline on Tuesday, MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred canceled Opening Day and the first two games of the 2022 season. Manfred told the press that the MLBPA refused to accept a new collective bargaining agreement provided by the MLB, adding that players would not be paid for the canceled games. The Union, on the other hand, said they were “disgusted, but not surprised” by MLB's decision. This is the first time in 27 years that games are canceled due to a failed owner-player negotiation.
