The National Climate Advisor, Gina McCarthy, is planning to step down in May (according to Reuters).
McCarthy had hoped to implement President Joe Biden’s climate change legislation by staying in her role for another year but efforts were impeded by key Democratic Senators.
The recent Russian invasion of Ukraine, too, has worsened the national climate change efforts.
With the President looking to increase the global supply of oil and carbon-rich energy products, promises to wean the US off fossil fuel dependency are nowhere near.
However, as per McCarthy’s recent tweets and government press statements, such claims are ‘simply inaccurate’, and there are ‘no such plans underway’.
