Washington DC’s National Football League team announced its new name—the Washington Commanders—on Wednesday, after an 18-month-long search. The new moniker ended the era of the Washington Redskins (former name that was ditched in July 2020) and Washington Football Team, as the Indigenous people called it racist. The team’s new name and logo were unveiled at a press conference with co-CEOs and co-owners Dan and Tanya Snyder, and the team President Jason Wright. The new logo will display a “W” on the franchise's signature burgundy-and-gold colors.
