North Korea, on Tuesday, boasted of ‘shaking the world’ with its series of missile tests and wasted no time in pointing out that it is one of only a few countries in the world capable of producing advanced nuclear weapons and missiles.
The N.Korea’s foreign ministry also added that it is the only country standing against the U.S.
Though a statement from the foreign ministry is less threatening, it was made on N.Korean Military Foundation Day.
Violating the United Nations Security Council resolution since 2006, N.Korea’s missile program was condemned for severely damaging the environment. This led to several sanctions, one of which disallowed testing ballistic missiles.
Yet, the isolated nation has been conducting a series of hypersonic nuclear missile test launches for years, acquiring materials illegally from Russia and China. January 2022 also saw a record number of tests in N.Korea with at least seven launches and a new type of ‘hypersonic missile’ that can be maneuvered at high speed. The firing of the Hwasong-12 intermediate-range ballistic missile was its largest missile test; it has the capabilities of striking the U.S. territories in the Pacific Ocean.
The constant testing, debris, warheads trespassing Japan, South Korea, and US-controlled Pacific waters have harbored international tension. The U.S. is trying to get N.Korea to suspend its ballistic missile testing via peace summits, but Kim Jung-un, N.Korea’s Supreme Leader is avoiding such interactions.
