Hundreds of Tech employees at The New York Times voted to join NewsGuild, one of the largest tech unions in the country. According to election results announced on Thursday, employees celebrated their landslide victory of 404-508 votes, accounting for close to 80% of the total votes cast. Danielle Rhoades Ha, a spokeswoman for The New York Times stated that The Times Tech Guild is eagerly looking forward to negotiations for a contract with upper management. In April, The Times had rejected The Times Tech Guild’s proposal for unionization and voluntary recognition stating that employee roles were too varied to be incorporated into a singular bargaining unit.
