The Super Bowl will officially start this Sunday with the traditional POTUS sit-down interview. Lester Holts from NBC has interviewed President Joe Biden for the pregame show. Here are the titbits from Thursday’s Nightly News by NBC.
Super Bowl
Biden was finally happy to celebrate the Super Bowl in its original forms and expects to see a full stadium this 2022. He criticized the Trump administration’s handling of the pandemic. He commented on the low levels of supply of vaccine last year and how it aided in COVID surge.
Inflation
Holts took the opportunity to probe the President on what “temporary’ really meant from his earlier announcements stating the US inflations were temporary. Biden tried to explain the current supply chain crisis; he mentions other factors as reasons behind the 40-year-high, but the clip was cut to create suspense for Sunday’s show.
Indoor Mask Mandates
Holts further questioned Biden on Democrat-led California, Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, and Oregon’s decisions on easing or ending mask mandates. Biden briefed that he focused on science and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) before making tough decisions. CDC allows communities with less than 50 infected people to go mask-free indoors. The same goes for schools given that the majority are vaccinated.
Ukraine Crisis
When asked about the State Department's notice requesting Americans to evacuate Ukraine, Biden assured that he would not get troops to evacuate civilians. He further said that a wrong move from either side will result in a World War.
SCOTUS and Republicans
Biden is looking forward to choosing a Supreme Court candidate who can gather support from Republicans. He is trying to fulfill his campaign promise of appointing a black woman.
NBC will air a few more portions from the interview on Friday at 6.30 p.m ET in its TODAY show.
