Thousands of people in northern New Mexico refused to evacuate their generational homes amid wildfire.

Even after the government warning and the lack of food and water, people are sticking to their homes to defend their centuries-old farming and ranching land.

Undersheriff Americk Padilla is distributing food and power generators to homes. He worried that the strong winds forecast for the weekend could push the wildfire to the villages and the neighboring Taos County.

The largest fire in the country has already burnt over 166 homes in Mora and San Miguel counties.
