Pharmaceutical giant Pfizer witnessed a staggering increase of 315% for its oral antiviral medication Paxlovid.
The increase in demand can be attributed to the recent rise in COVID-19 cases in the country.
Back to the ‘new normal’?
The drastic increase in COVID-19 cases has brought back the mask mandates in highly-populated areas like New York City. According to a Reuters tally, the US sees nearly 97,000 cases per day—the numbers were only around 73,000 last week.
Will Paxlovid become scarce?
The White House is working to increase the availability of Paxlovid in many locations. A senior health official said, “In recent weeks we've gone from 20,000 sites with Paxlovid to approximately 35,000 and we'll keep working to increase availability.”
