Russia is failing in its war aims and “Ukraine is succeeding”, Washington’s top diplomat announced after visiting Kyiv.
The meeting marks the first time high ranking US officials traveled to Ukraine since Russia launched its military operation on February 24.
The Blinken and Zelensky meeting is a powerful message to the Kremlin that Kyiv will not be left alone in the war.
Before the meeting, the Biden administration announced to provide $800 million for Ukraine’s military aid—the US has provided over $3.4 billion for Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
The top US diplomat and its defense secretary pledged additional military aid, including advanced weapons, and a return of US envoys to Kyiv.
Back to normal?
With a state of normalcy returning to the capital city of Kyiv, many countries reopened their embassies. US diplomats are likely to return to Ukraine in the coming weeks.
What’s next?
United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres is expected to meet Zelensky and Russian President Vladimir Putin separately this week.
