Russian businessman and founder of Tinkoff Bank, Oleg Tinkov, criticized the Kremlin’s action in Ukraine, making him the first oligarch to denounce Putin's actions openly.

Taking to Instagram on Tuesday, Tinkov wrote, “I don’t see a SINGLE beneficiary of this insane war! Innocent people and soldiers are dying.” He added that 90% of Russians were against the war in Ukraine.

Other prominent Russian oligarchs like Mikhail Fridman and Oleg Deripaska have made separate calls for peace.

The reason behind Tinkov’s attack
Before the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Tinkov's wealth estimate was more than $4.4 billion. According to Forbes, he has since lost his billionaire status as his bank’s shares plummeted in March.

Sanctions by the West are forcing oligarchs to take their stand either for or against Russia.
