Senator Joe Manchin, who holds a key vote in the evenly split Senate, said he would not support Sarah Bloom Raskin’s nomination for the Federal Reserve Board.

He mentioned that Raskin “failed to satisfactorily address my concerns about the critical importance of financing an all-of-the-above energy policy to meet our Nation’s critical energy needs.”

Senator Susan Collins backed Manchin’s decision, saying the unanswered questions about Biden’s nominee’s record made her decide that Raskin cannot be confirmed.

The five nominees—including Jerome Powell for a second term as Fed chairman—were already prevented from being considered last month as the Republicans led by Pennsylvania’s Pat Toomey refused to appear during the panel vote for Fed nominees, thereby blocking Raskin’s nomination.

For the nomination to be confirmed for the Federal Reserve Board, Raskin needs at least one Republican vote to support her.
