Sony Interactive Entertainment (SIE) has announced its intent to buy Bungie Inc., ex-Halo and Destiny creators, for $3.6 billion. This deal comes shortly after two big gaming acquisitions—Take-Two Interactive Software Inc’s $12.7 billion acquisition of Zynga, and Microsoft’s $69 billion acquisition of Activision Blizzard.

This acquisition will allow SIE to access Bungie’s world-class live games, technology expertise, and its goal to reach millions of players. According to a blog post, Jim Ryan, CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, says that even after the acquisition Bungie will continue to be an independent and multi-platform studio.

Bungie added that their future games will not become exclusive to PlayStation.
