With NASA’s launch of the new GOES-T satellite, scientists can now look forward to having a new set of powerful eyes tracking the Earth’s weather and climate conditions. The GOES-T satellite launched into space on a United Launch Alliance (ULA) Atlas V rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Tuesday. After being successfully deployed from the Atlas V's upper stage around 3.5 hours after liftoff, GOES-T is now en route to geostationary orbit, approximately 22,300 miles above the Earth’s surface. The satellite will perform a range of tasks including assisting scientists in monitoring weather systems and natural hazards while covering a significant portion of the Western Hemisphere.
